Serendipity

A favorite satellite photo of an experimental wind turbine project in Iowa. What luck to have a straight down photo at the exact moment the sun angle was just right to give an un-distorted shadow (yes that is the shadow!) of the slow speed wind turbine.  The 50 kW grid-connected DC generator appears as a small dot on the right side where the mast shadow meets the wheel shadow.  The actual turbine is the silver shape in the corner of the green grass.  This was a very interesting renewable energy project.  The experimental generator in Iowa was programmed and monitored, via internet, from Maine. Thanks, NASA!       – cnt, from the Raven period…
